Batam City has the highest estimated number of diabetes mellitus (DM) sufferers compared to districts/cities in the Riau Islands province of 20,338 people, with service coverage of 17,592 people (86%). An initial survey at the Sei Langkai Community Health Center found an increase in cases from 2021 to 2023. Most diabetes mellitus (DM) patients do not know self-care well, so this is followed by a decline in quality of life. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between self-care and the quality of life of Diabetes Mellitus patients. The design of this research is correlational analytic with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study was 77 diabetes mellitus patients who visited the Sei Langkai Community Health Center in 17 July- 07 August 2024, who were taken using a consecutive sampling technique. The instruments in this study used the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) and Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL). The results of univariate analysis showed that the majority of Diabetes Mellitus patients had poor self- care behavior, namely 56 people (72.7%) and 58 people (75.3%) had poor quality of life. The results of the chi square statistical test obtained a p value of 0.000 <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between self-care and the quality of life of diabetes mellitus patients at the Sei Langkai Community Health Center in 2024. It is hoped that the nursing profession and other health workers can provide motivation, intervention, as well as further health education related to self-care for DM sufferers in improving health status and quality of life.Downloads
