HUBUNGAN TONISITAS CAIRAN INTRAVENA DENGAN KEJADIAN PHLEBITIS DI RUANG CENDRAWASIH RUMAH SAKIT UMUM DAERAH (RSUD) TANJUNG UBAN

Abstract

Phlebitis is one of the most frequent complications of the intravenous therapy.One of the risk factor of phlebitis is the tonicity of the intravenous fluid, as the higher the tonicity the higher the fluid ability to iritate the vein endhotel that will lead to the phlebitis. This research intends to find out the relationship between the tonicity of the intravenous fluid and the incidents of phlebitis. For that purpose, this research use analytic description as research method and cross sectional as observation method. The population of this research is all of the patients that received intravenous therapy in Cendrawasih room, State Hospital of Tanjung Uban. This research involving 56 respondents, using convenience sample as sampling method, and bservation sheet and medical records as measuring instrument. The method of analysis used in this research is both univariate and bivariate. The univariate analysis show that majority of the respondents used isotonic fluids (60,71%) and did not developed the phlebitis (69,64%). The result of the bivariate test using the chi-square test shows that there is a significant relationship between intravenous fluids and phlebitis incidents with significant influence p value = 0,000. The result of this research is expected to be used as a consideration in the procedure of administering intravenous fluids and drugs especially those with higher pH and tonicity to reduce the risk of phlebitis.
