ABSTRACT Background: Surgical procedures often cause anxiety. Anxiety can stem from uncertainty about the outcome and unfamiliarity with the procedure, which can impact physiological stability. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of pre-anesthesia education on patient knowledge and anxiety levels. Method: A single-group pretest-posttest approach was used for a pre-experimental design in 41 patients undergoing spinal anesthesia surgery at Hj. Bunda Halimah Hospital, Batam City. Leaflets were used before and after pre-anesthesia education to measure knowledge and anxiety levels. These data were then analyzed univariately and bivariately. Results: Statistical test results showed that before the instruction, most respondents had poor knowledge (56.1%) and moderate anxiety (58.5%). However, after the pre-anesthesia instruction via paper sheets, the level of good knowledge increased to 73.2% and anxiety decreased, with the majority of respondents in the not anxious category (58.5%). Conclusion: Pre-anesthesia education using leaflets is effective in increasing knowledge and reducing anxiety. Leaflets can be used as a simple, practical, and efficient educational method in healthcare Keywords: Pra Anesthesia Education, Leaflet, Knowledge, Anxiety, Spinal AnesthesiaDownloads
