Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Chronic laryngitis is an inflammation of the laryngeal mucosa lasting more than three weeks and may be influenced by individual characteristics, including age and sex. This study aimed to determine the relationship between age and sex and the incidence of chronic laryngitis among ENT outpatients at Hospital X, Batam City. Methods: This study used an analytical observational design with a retrospective cross-sectional approach. A total of 150 patients were selected using total sampling based on medical records from 2023–2024. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of α=0.05. Results: Most patients were adults, comprising 84 patients (56.0%), and female, comprising 86 patients (57.3%). A total of 116 patients (77.3%) had chronic laryngitis. There were significant relationships between age and chronic laryngitis incidence (p=0.021) and between sex and chronic laryngitis incidence (p=0.030). Conclusion: Age and sex were significantly associated with the incidence of chronic laryngitis.     Keywords: Age, Sex, Chronic Laryngitis, ENT Outpatients.
