Abstract

Background: A common disorder that occurs during the menstrual period was menstrual pain, medically known as dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea, specifically, refers to menstrual pain that occurs without any gynecological abnormalities in the reproductive organs. One of the risk factors suspected to be associated with this condition was obesity. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between obesity and primary dysmenorrhea among 11th-grade female students at State High School 1 Batam. Method: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 184 eleventh-grade female students at SMAN 1 Batam in March 2025 who met the inclusion criteria, using a simple random sampling technique. The statistical test used in this study was the Chi-Square test. Results: Most respondents experienced primary Dysmenorrhea, namely 110 people (59.8%) and were overweight, namely 148 people (80.4%). There was a relationship between being overweight and primary Dysmenorrhea in grade XI female students at SMAN 1 Batam with a p value of 0.001. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it was found that there was a relationship between excess body weight and primary Dysmenorrhea in class XI female students at SMAN 1 Batam.
