Eye health problems that can affect vision can be caused by disease or trauma to the unexpected. Eye diseases are common in advanced age cataract disease. One of the factors the causes of cataracts faster is smoking. Smoking rooms contain free radicals that can cause disorders of the eye. The purpose of this research is to know the relation of smoking Intensity with the incidence of cataracts. This study used a case control with a retrospective approach was implemented on 23 May-14 June 2017 at the Eye Polyclinic Camatha Sahidya Hospital Batam. The sample of this research is eye disease sufferers who came to the clinic with a history of smoking. The sample of this research is 48 people. Where 24 samples as case group i.e. patients cataract sufferers with a history of smoking and 24 samples as a control group that was taken as a convenience sampling namely patients do not experience eye cataracts but have a history of smoking. The analysis in this study using uni-variate analysis to look at the distribution of frequencies and bivariate with chisquare test. It can be concluded that there is a relationship means Ho is rejected a significant relationship between the intensity of smoking with the incidence of cataracts. It is recommended to Camatha Sahidya Hospital Batam to be able to hand out leaflets related cataracts and smoking. And hospital becomes information and material input to know more clearly as well as risk factors that can lead to the onset of cataracts.References
