Abstrak

The demand and development in the aerospace sector for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is continually increasing. In the last few years of development on Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs, which aim to perform Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) missions or reconnaissance and surveillance missions in border areas from a distance. The author conducted research on the variation of wing planform for Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of different wing planform variations, aiming to increase the endurance and range of the MALE UAVs. To obtain the aerodynamic characteristics of the Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV, the author used Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS Fluent and methods for calculating range and endurance, assuming flight conditions at 16,000 feet. The conclusions of this research show that the proposed wing planform with an aspect ratio of 30 is the configuration with the highest increase, with a constant altitude endurance increase of 0.66 hours or 2.9%, a constant speed endurance increase of 0.65 hours or 2.9%, and a range increase of 152.45 km or 2.9%.
