Abstract

Batam City is geographically located in a very strategic position, lying along the international shipping route. The land surface of Batam City is generally flat with variations of hills, the highest of which reaches 160 meters above sea level. The city has a tropical climate, with the minimum temperature in 2021 ranging from 21.8°C to 24.2°C and the maximum temperature ranging from 31.3°C to 34.4°C. The average temperature throughout 2021 was between 26.1°C and 28.1°C. The average atmospheric pressure for 2021 ranged from 1,010.1 mb to 1,012.4 mb. Meanwhile, the humidity in Batam City averaged between 75% and 85%. Flooding frequently occurs in several densely populated residential areas, one of which is in Batam City. This study aims to plan a drainage system for the Hasanuddin Road to Punggur, located in Batam City, with the primary focus on calculating rainfall frequency analysis using the Normal Probability Method and calculating design discharge using the Rational Method. In this study, the calculated design flood discharge for the perimeter drainage channel shows that the discharge for a 10-year return period (Q10) is 35.404 m³/second. Based on this design flood discharge value, the author plans the dimensions of the drainage channel to be trapezoidal with the following measurements: channel height (h) 2 meters, water surface height (y) 2 meters, bottom width (b) 4 meters, and side slope (w) 1 meter. This planned design is expected to provide an effective solution to drainage problems in the area and reduce the potential for flooding in the future.
