Abstract

Background: Excessive use of gadgets can negatively affect adolescents’ mental health, especially by triggering anxiety disorders. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to psychological issues due to their complex emotional and social development stages. This study aims to examine the relationship between gadget usage intensity and anxiety disorders among students at SMA Negeri X in Batam City. Methods: This was an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 322 students was selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using a gadget use intensity questionnaire and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HARS) scale. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: A 73% of students with low gadget use intensity did not experience anxiety, 43.4% of students with moderate gadget use intensity did not experience anxiety, and 30.7% of students with high gadget use intensity experienced moderate anxiety. The Spearman Rank test results showed a significance value (p-value) of 0.000 and an r-value of 0.367. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between the intensity of gadget use and anxiety disorders in students at State Senior High School X in Batam City.
