Abstrak

The pontoon on an amphibious excavator is a crucial component that enables the heavy equipment to operate in wetlands, swamps, and shallow waters. However, due to direct exposure to water, mud, and hard materials like rocks and wood, the pontoon experiences accelerated degradation caused by corrosion, impact, and friction. This study aims to develop a maintenance strategy to extend the pontoon’s lifespan. The methodology includes field observations, visual inspections, and interviews with mechanics and maintenance staff. The findings indicate that major damages include leakage due to corrosion, bent track link assembly rails, and worn-out wearing strips. To address these issues, the proposed maintenance strategies include painting the pontoon with corrosion-resistant coatings, replacing rails before severe damage occurs, and periodically replacing wearing strips. Implementing these strategies is expected to extend the pontoon’s lifespan, enhance workplace safety, and reduce maintenance and replacement costs in the future.
